Thu, July 3, 2008 - 5:10 AMI wish I had the foresight to have begun collecting the best of these years ago, the way I did evangelical tracts in the 1980's. Like wedding ceremonies or televangelists, they are a quirky and delightful genre all to themselves. -

Thu, July 3, 2008 - 3:06 PMMost of my tracts have gone the way of all ephemera, but most of the ones worth keeping were from Jack Chick, who went on to become famous. It's odd to consider how I was admiring him and the Frank Miller Daredevils at almost exactly the same time and for exactly the same reasons. Chick's stuff can now be found online at www.chick.com/catalog/ass...nts/0915.asp , but some of my favorites were the ones that were handmade. There was one fellow who I spoke with a couple times in high school who lived in a shack about ten miles from town and wrote out his own by hand, often by lamplight. He was a very nice, slightly crazy, devout man, and I still think about him once or twice a year.
Much harder to find than tracts (thanks be teh googlez) are videotapes of Jimmy Swaggart and that ilk, circa 1982. Now *that* stuff is messed up!
