I'd like to ask all the men in here this question: Is there anything us men ought to be scared about when it comes down to us gradually loseing our hair towards growing bald? Is that something that's obvious to scare the ladies away?

When it became clear I got my maternal grandfather's shiny-pated genese, I bought a set of clippers and gave myself a buzz cut. I loved having long-ish hair but comb-overs just don't appeal to me.
The SHOCK of cold rain and snow on my head still gets to me. And sunburns. That's the only thing I'm scared of ;-)
Consider this: baldness is a sure sign that there's testosterone in the system. My partner posits that women may be naturally attracted to baldness because there's a suggestion of virility there. So it is just the opposite -- maybe it attracts the ladies?

Re: Growing Bald
Sat, September 12, 2009 - 11:51 AMI used to have hair to my waist band and started to lose it I freaked a tad bit. But also decided I did not ever want to be "That Guy" you know the one with the bald head and the pony tail.. So we had a huge party got real wasted and shaved my head bald.
After finally getting used to scaring myself in reflective surfaces I came to embrace it as part of who I am and actually went so far as to realize that with my head shaved I am pretty damn scary looking. This was a serious confidence booster.
Looking back I have found that women seem to like a clean shaved head and it has not in the least harmed or decreased the number or quality of women I am able to attract.
I think there really is a whole lot of marketing trying to make men believe that hair is far more important than it actually is.

Thu, October 1, 2009 - 4:25 PMI used to have a ponytail when I was younger, hair got shorter as I got older. One day I ended up with some clippers and a buzz cut and shortly after that I started shaving my head, I love it, my dates / partners love it. Nothing to be scared of

Re: Growing Bald
Thu, October 1, 2009 - 4:47 PMHow much hair you have on your head is not what makes you sexy.
It's what you do with the brain thats inside your head. So shine on
and think sexy. <hugs>

Sun, October 4, 2009 - 7:02 AMAn older and wiser friend I had several years back would say
"grass doesn't grow
on a busy street"
I am sixty two and fortunately still have most of mine. I am a Leo so part of my persona has always been my mane.
I have decided that when the day comes I'll shave it all and get on with it.

Re: Growing Bald
Tue, October 6, 2009 - 2:57 PMif you want to keep what you have right now but start to see signs of thinning, use rogaine.
it will stop you from losing more and might thicken it a bit but you have to stay on it.
on the down side. it lowers testosterone a little.

Re: Growing Bald
Sun, October 11, 2009 - 3:05 AMI know this one is mostly for the men. But since some of you seem to be wondering about whether we ladies care about hair- speaking for myself, I'll say, definitely yes. I have a long history of dating men w/ lush heads of hair, own long- just something that attracts me- I notice that even before other things I like. It really does come down to what's IN that head, however...
If a full head of hair is no longer possible for a man, & he's lost a lot of hair, like almost every woman I know, I prefer a very close-shorn or completely shaved head. Especially with a groomed beard, or a strong jaw, that look can be great!
Comb-overs are awful, & fool no one. Lots of us don't like the advanced male pattern baldness look, either. Buzz or shave it!
The bottom line is, most women tend to be fairly realistic about the looks of real men in our lives, especially as we ourselves grow older. We like to see some effort made to look good, but perfection is not required (all the more reason to cut us a break).
